Cute?
After reading the descritption of this article many things jumped to my mind. Why would anyone in the entire world think that guns are cute?? Guns are the things that kill people, it takes away things that can't be returned or made up for and 17 magazine is making it look like the new trend in 2010. I cannot believe that there are people who carry around guns and say that they feel safe, I would feel more worried, I would rather be in an environment where I can walk around without a gun! In all honesty I think that teenagers nowadays are confused an mislead about the things they are doing, especially if they are encouraged toc ary guns around. A World without violence would be a better place, and this article is a step in the wrong direction.
I thought that this article was very interesting and maybe an article which felt out of place for a magazine such as Seventeen. The magazine's viewership is obviously comprised of teenagers who I feel are easily influenced by the media and their peers. This is why I feel that this article, which portrayed guns in a positive light, may not be the best idea. Although they do provide protection, guns and weapons alike are very dangerous and can easily be mishandled. Also, the effects of a shooting cannot be reversed. If you're caught up in your emotions, such as the girl in the article, there are others ways to release your pent up energy. Guns are a quick fix to problems, but you will almost always regret your decision to shoot. So, I feel that teenage girls should not have guns. Teenagers as a whole, do not always handle their emotions well and giving them a gun might make them feel like they have to use it. I wouldn't carry a gun with me because I think that a gun would only create more problems and saftey issues. Self defense classes can substitute guns, but I think that the most important thing is to be smart and aware of the situations you are put in. If you look around you and not be oblivious to yous surroundings, you can stay out of dangereous situations which would require a gun.
This is quite a controversial issue for many reasons and there are lots of different angles you could look at this. Even though I think safety in a public setting, especially with all the crimes like robbery and rape, I don’t think that guns should be in every girl’s purse as a standard thing. I think that if it gets more common and popular in society in the hands of more people, it will lose its scare factor and will just be used wildly.

The idea of teenage girls with guns just spells disaster in my mind. Yes, it is more appealing and less scary to a young person with making them more “girlie” and not a “hard core”; however, I think that this is bad because the image of a gun is skewed to a friendlier “accessory”, but still holding the same danger that could cause major damage. Just the fact that it doesn’t seem as “bad” and heavy and like machinery, could cause people to take it more lightly and use it more recklessly. Teenage girls can get very dramatic and carried away, this shooting a perfect example. Having all these guns around in a school among the youth is very dangerous. I think it is worse to have the guns around than to bring them around for protection.

I thought that for a teenage magazine, it wasn’t good to put guns in such a positive light. I don’t think that it is something that should be advocated to all these young teenage girls who read this very popular magazine. I think that you have to publicize the other side of the story, like the dangers and consequences if many girls had guns.

As for the gun making a woman feel proud and powerful, I would just say that one has to remember that it doesn’t make one invisible.
If you think that abortion has been a controversial issue for too long, then you have not met its good friend, Mr. Second Amendment. The Second Amendment in the United States Bill of Rights guarantees the citizens' right to bear arms. This clause has been very controversial throughout the history of the United States, and I believe that it will remain controversial until maybe when the Forefathers themselves actually return to today's society and interpret it properly once and for all.

As stated in Kristin’s description of the article, one of the main arguments behind the right to carry firearms is personal protection. However, although I agree that the protection of oneself is important, I would argue that the protection of the society as a whole is of greater value. The fact that carrying firearms poses a threat to the protection of the society, and given the horrifying statistics that Kristin has provided, I am stolid in my belief.

I would even further argue that this issue should not be based on gender. May it be a male or a female, a person of youth or of age, the right to bear arms should not be judged based on this criteria. A gun is so easy to use and to kill that even my four year old baby sister already knows how to “point and shoot.”

People should not be allowed to carry guns, and if given the privilege to carry one myself, I would, with no hesitation, decline. There are equally effective ways to defend oneself. These include martial arts, self-defense training, pepper spray, taser guns, and many more.
Also, it is surprising to discover this article in a popular magazine that is read worldwide. I don't think girls our age should have possession to guns. Teenagers are often more irrational and emotional and they might do stupid things without thinking through. I think girls only feel empowered because of the glamor. Plus they want to show off because guns have always been the symbol of masculinity. The real strength of individuals still depend on their characters and not an object. I think it is wrong for Seventeen Magazine to put gun in a positive way because the influence of media is huge. Since a lot of teenagers read Seventeen Magazine, they might get the idea that using violence to release their anger is a way to show toughness when it is not necessarily the case. Personally, I wouldn't chose to carry a gun with me. Just think about every teenager having a gun with them scares me. The fact that having a gun will make people more self centered and unwilling to compromise. It will only create distrust among people and a more violent world. I definitely think there are better ways than using guns to defend yourself. For example, people can use pepper spray or a whistle when they get attack.
The issue of gun ownership by anyone has always been something that I was not for. I believe that the ownership of guns will only lead to the carelessness and tragedy. I really do think that the saftey of anyone is necessary but guns come along with too many items on the caution label. When emotions over take a person anything could happen with a gun. They could fire at someone that they did not mean to shoot, or even shoot themselves. Although it does give the person a sense of protection it also puts them in even more danger. In the article, many of the girls comment on how it gives them a sense of power and control, but really that is no reason, you can find that somewhere else. I think that for many women it is the fact of proving themselves once again to society and men that they can pull of macho things. But should anyone really be proud of killing? First off, I believe that teenagers shouldn't have the need to carry around such weapons. I understand that danger is lurking everywhere, but should we be allowing teens to carry guns with "pride"? I personally would be terrified to have a weapon like that in my possession, because it entails so much responsibility. Also, why are these gun companies targeting girls? Guns should strictly be a safety device. They don't need to be making a fashion statement. I'm not so certain it was a good move for the 17 magazine to include this article. Many teenage girls read this magazine, and they might get the impression that since other girls carry these cute guns around, maybe I should too. This is only going to make the world a more dangerous place. The influence magazines have over their readers is immense. They should make sure they are using the power wisely.
This is quite a big topic. If teenager girls carry guns for protection, it is a very good way to defend from any person or group of people. I says this because of the rape and sexual assaults. However, if something like the girl shooting the other girl just because she says let's just be friends, i definitely think that guns should not be carried around if this incident happened. Actually carrying a gun marks maturity. A gun should be used only if necessary. Shooting the girl is definitely not necessary. Since carrying a gun marks maturity, teenagers should NOT be carrying guns. Because teenagers are still growing up and maybe if the emotions get involved, the teenagers will just shoot. And what if the gun goes off by itself and kills someone? There is always the question about safety if the topic is about something that can kill.
