I kind of like the idea of male contraceptives because now you can give both the women AND men the responsibility of having children. But then again, women are the ones that are the bearers of children so it's kind of hard to draw the line of whose responsibility all of this should be. Women are still the ones carrying the children but now with male contraceptives, the men have more power, which could be dangerous.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"65308514","dateCreated":"1386272472","smartDate":"Dec 5, 2013","userCreated":{"username":"sakim4","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/sakim4","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/65308514"},"dateDigested":1532140377,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Response","description":"I think it's amazing how males might finally have a way of preventing pregnancy besides the use of a condom. I never really thought about giving males contraceptives in order to kill sperm. The principle is all there, however, and it is a great idea. I think that it is kind of smart but really not going to help anything because the men usually don't care about controlling themselves. Men should now that getting a woman pregnant is their concern also but then again they can just ditch the lady after they find out she is pregnant. If people want this contraceptive to work then the men are going to have to remember to take it and realize that they can help the woman out too. Women take birth control because they will be the one carrying the baby if they forget to take the pill. Men on the other hand, probably could care less. Another factor that has to be recognized is that men could lie about taking these pills. If a man's wife wants to get pregnant and he doesn't he could take the pills and not tell her. Although he does have some right in not wanting to have a baby, it should be a joint decision on wether to have a baby.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"68093344","body":"The lying can happen on both sides, though. \nI thought this was pretty interesting to read because I would have never thought about creating a birth control pill for men. I've always thought birth control pills existed for women because they were the ones who would take care of their baby inside them for nine months. Thinking about it some more, I realized that it is completely unfair to put all of the responsibility on the woman to take responsibility for their pregnancy or take care of their baby all by themselves especially when it takes two people to make a baby. I didn't even consider men being a part of the pregnancy decision, but with a contraceptive pill for men, the responsibility between the man and woman would be equally split. The probability of having unintentional pregnancies would decline because everyone would have a part in the pregnancy.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"65305182","dateCreated":"1386262255","smartDate":"Dec 5, 2013","userCreated":{"username":"aolana_banes","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/aolana_banes","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/65305182"},"dateDigested":1532140378,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Male Contraceptives","description":"This article really shocked me. I didn't know that people were working on a male contraceptive because..well, I just didn't think about it. It is bad to think this but, I guess men taking contraceptives just doesn't seem "normal". But, I do agree that if it is a success, it will change our society and relationships. This also shows how there are ways in which our society are trying to give men and women the same responsibilities and equality. But, I do agree that is is harder to make a contraceptive for men because there are so many sperms to block at the time, in relation to the one or two eggs in a woman. In all, I am happy to hear that someone is working on male contraceptives because it doesn't leave the woman with all the accountability in a sexual relationship.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"65299466","dateCreated":"1386235759","smartDate":"Dec 5, 2013","userCreated":{"username":"staceyleee","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/staceyleee","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/65299466"},"dateDigested":1532140379,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Male Contraceptives","description":"Having male contraceptives is a huge breakthrough. Our society has put responsibility on the backs of many women when it comes to having sex. When a woman unintentionally gets pregnant, everyone immediately blames her. I have never heard of something like this before for males. Scientific discoveries are evolving. I think women feel the responsibility for birth control. This male contraceptive turns that around. It is a different point a view to think about as a male has the ability to have their own "birth control". Honestly, I don't know why a male would want to take a contraceptive pill. But, I am not too sure, and after all I do not know the mindset or theories from the direct male point of view.
\nOverall, I believe that this topic demonstrates the gender roles starting to change to become more equal in the sense of sexual responsibility.

Although I like that it gives men the responsibility of choosing whether a woman becomes pregnant or not, I also feel that they are not capable to hold this burden. If a woman wants to make sure that she does not get pregnant, she should not rely on the man. In some ways, this gives men even more power. If a man is irresponsible and forgets to take a pill and a woman gets pregnant, he can blame the pill and say that it is malfunctioning or some other problem since it is so new. Furthermore, the woman should not give the man control since he may not want kids, and therefore take the pill in secrecy. I think that although this is an amazing innovation that can spread in a positive way for women, it can also become negative and cause problems if it is taken advantage of.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"68093388","body":"I see your point.
