It is one of my favorite movies. But personally, I believe that it's not the gender of the person that defines whether or not they are a "good" boss, but their personality. I don't have a preference on the gender of my boss. I believe that Queen Bee Syndrome exists, but only in some women, possibly even in men. Media tends to portray female bosses in a negative light which probably contributes to the negative view some people have on higher powered females. It was also incredibly surprising to me that men had a higher percentage of no preference in terms of what gender they want their boss to be. Personally I thought that more women would want to be in a job with a female boss so they could strive to be higher powered.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"64963350","dateCreated":"1384535643","smartDate":"Nov 15, 2013","userCreated":{"username":"Sullz808","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Sullz808","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/64963350"},"dateDigested":1532140503,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Female Boss Reaction","description":"In movies and shows, women are always portrayed as jealous of each other in the work place, especially if the woman has a higher status in the business. I never really believed that this ever existed until reading this article. Now, I completely understand what both sides could possibly be thinking. I also believe that this is ridiculous and selfish because women should be happy when other women break the glass ceiling. It should be considered a victory for all women when this happens because she showed what every woman could potentially become. The queen bee is also extremely selfish because she should have nothing to worry about and she strikes other women down because of her own insecurities.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"64946504","dateCreated":"1384456687","smartDate":"Nov 14, 2013","userCreated":{"username":"NMitsuyasu","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/NMitsuyasu","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/64946504"},"dateDigested":1532140503,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Women Bosses Response ","description":"Personally, I would not prefer a woman for a boss. It's stereotypical that women need to be "bitches" in order to be a good boss. In a Nicki Manaj documentary, she stated that if men were bossy, gave orders and they were obeyed, he was considered a boss. If a woman tried to assert her authority and was assertive in any way, she becomes considered a bitch. The Queen Bee syndrome comes along because the woman in high powered positions have to work for respect a lot harder than men do. Woman demand respect and I think that's where they get wrong. Also, woman like to include emotion into everything including their jobs which get in the way of doing strictly business. I would prefer a male over female boss. It's less complicated and men are easier to work with. That's why there are more guides to work with women than with men. They are so much more complicated and I think the biggest thing is not being able to put aside emotions. It does exist in our society today.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"64944800","dateCreated":"1384453841","smartDate":"Nov 14, 2013","userCreated":{"username":"Ranakaga","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Ranakaga","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/64944800"},"dateDigested":1532140503,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Response","description":"When it comes to job opportunities as bosses I believe that men and women should have the same chance at becoming the boss. I do believe that when women are bosses they may try to be more dominant because they know that they are seen as less dominant. I do believe that women should be bosses and a lot of them who are, are tough and smart ones. In movies and in reality, people complain more about female bosses than male bosses. In the movie "The Proposal," Sandra Bullock is the boss and she is so mean and heartless because she tries to show that she is the alpha and omega and that no one better try and take her rank because she worked so hard for it. Also, my mom used to work for a female boss and when she would come home she would be so irritated because her boss would act like she was always correct and make snobby comments to her workers. When it comes to social stuff, women are very competitive and they will do whatever it takes to keep them up and everyone else down. Although, I agree with the article in that a female's way of being a boss is not solely because she is a woman most of the time it could just be because of the person she is or how she changed after fighting her way to the top of the chain.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"64933478","dateCreated":"1384416339","smartDate":"Nov 14, 2013","userCreated":{"username":"Courtkennedy","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Courtkennedy","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/64933478"},"dateDigested":1532140503,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Female Bosses Response","description":"After reading this article I took away many different prospectives on the topic of female bosses. This article talks about the behavior of women bosses reflecting their desire to gain respect. This point emphasizes the fact that women are stereotyped "Queen Bees", when in actuality they may act a certain way to their employees to giant he respect that men are already given. However, I also agree that women use their power as boss for a negative extent because they feel insecure and want others to always be below them. These different types of women bosses all get categorized together and give women bosses a bad wrap. At the end of the article I agreed with the point about media depicting female bosses in a certain way, which also adds to the stereotype. Overall, this article gave me new insight on how I view female bosses in the work place, especially among males equivalents.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"64933476","dateCreated":"1384416338","smartDate":"Nov 14, 2013","userCreated":{"username":"Courtkennedy","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Courtkennedy","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/64933476"},"dateDigested":1532140503,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Female Bosses Response","description":"After reading this article I took away many different prospectives on the topic of female bosses. I would have thought that due to the fear of sexual harassment, that women would prefer a female boss. For me I have no preference of the gender and it might be largely due t the fact that I have a mom who is her own boss. Since I was a young I've seen her work and there was never a doubt that her employees respect her. She's assertive and very capable of running a company. As long as I have a job and as long as my boss is a decent, respectable person I will be perfectly content with my working life. I disagree that the Queen Bee Syndrome is something that only women exhibit. Who says that a man will not have the same syndrome? It wasn't surprising to see that so many people had a gender preference, because they are solely based on stereotypes. I didn't like how the writer used movies such as Devil Wears Prada and The Proposal because not only are they marketed towards women, there are other movies that show that men have this problem too: Horrible Bosses and American Psycho. Everything is based on a stereotype that was rooted centuries ago and that affects how we decide who we want to work for.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"64933386","dateCreated":"1384414650","smartDate":"Nov 13, 2013","userCreated":{"username":"sabrina_gouveia","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/sabrina_gouveia","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/64933386"},"dateDigested":1532140504,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Female Bosses Response","description":"Although this article had valid points about women bosses, I find it absurd to categorize all women into this "queen bee" stereotype. While it is true that women an be intimidating bosses, there are also many men out there with similar or even harsher methods. A woman should have every right to be in a high position in a company, and should be respected just as much as if a man were in her position. The idea that women are catty and have a queen bee attitude only grasps a portion of the women bosses. Also, women must act this way in order to be taken seriously, or else their employees will take advantage of them. Also, because of our sonically constructed society, women must seem more strict in order to reach their position in the first place. Furthermore, while there are many women bosses who lay down the law, there are other women bosses who are the opposite. Women also have the capability to have a motherly instinct which can transfer into the work environment. In conclusion, people in a high position of bosses depends on the individual and her or his personality, not gender.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":true},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
