I focus on my eyelashes to make them seem bigger, I constantly shave my body hairs, and I work on my tan even though I tan easily. Although, I tend not to worry about cellulite, or dying my hair because I have natural, "virgin" hair. I think beauty is something everyone wishes was inner but reality of it is that beauty is 75% outer and 25% inner. When applying for jobs, people look at you based off first looks because you are the first thing a customer will see and determine about you and the store. Since my mom barely wears make up, I didn't start wearing make up until last year and it's only because everyone was wearing make up and I wanted to fit in. But the good thing about me wearing makeup is that I don't wear a lot of it just minimal. Beauty should be 100% inner and I can't wait until the day that it is.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"67463748","dateCreated":"1399659323","smartDate":"May 9, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"Mekegans","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Mekegans","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1395131025\/Mekegans-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/67463748"},"dateDigested":1532140531,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE# 8","description":"I can honestly say that I have fallen for at least 5 of these expectations. Body hair, cellulite, lashes, hair etc. I have found myself searching for half-hours for the perfect product that would make my lashes a little longer, hair a little lighter, and skin a little smoother. I didn't really think about it and it wouldn't be the end of the world for me if I I didn't have these products, but there is a little voice in my head encouraging me to use these products to be a little more attractive. My most comfortable state would be those weekends where I can wash off every drop of make-up, not shave my legs, and tie my hair up into bun with a scrunchy. I bet 8 out of 10 girls would not dare to leave the house in that condition, which I find a little sad. We feel society will judge us when really, it's ourselves who set that bar. The cashier at longs could care less what you look like on weekends.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"67462924","dateCreated":"1399656843","smartDate":"May 9, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"Mikaylalum","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Mikaylalum","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/67462924"},"dateDigested":1532140531,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE 8","description":"I found this article very interesting actually because my final project topic is similar in the way that there is an idea of what beauty should be for women. I don't have a definition for beauty unless you're talking about the beauty inside of someone. I believe that every person has something beautiful about them whether it be a feature they have or something they do. I thought the ads in this article discussing what society forces you to do for you a woman to feel beautiful, even if they already are. Each woman has a perfect imperfection.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"67462844","dateCreated":"1399656679","smartDate":"May 9, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"suyamada","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/suyamada","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1390454468\/suyamada-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/67462844"},"dateDigested":1532140532,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE #8","description":"Women are constantly convinced that they are not beautiful enough with load of products on their face, in their hair, and in their bloodstream. Diet pills, hairspray, plastic surgery... It just gets more and more invasive. The beauty industry needs to make money and of course, the best target is insecure women. I read this article one night talking about how if all women woke up believing they were all truly beautiful, the beauty industry would plummet. While this would be very healthy for many of our future generations who will probably be exposed to limitless beauty tips and new standards, there is something exciting about dying my hair and putting on make up. I know I don't have to in order to be accepted by society, but it makes me happy. I suppose that's the other side to this argument. While the industry makes women feel like they're not beautiful enough, it can also help us feel even more beautiful for ourselves. I have never felt like I am not good enough because of the beauty industry, I've just felt like they are suggesting me to look a certain way. If I don't like what they're suggesting, I don't succumb to it and immediately go out and buy the product to conform. Maybe it's taken a while for me to reach this point of confidence and trust with myself, but it has made a huge difference in the way I see myself. I hope others girls can reach this point too.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"67453436","dateCreated":"1399604705","smartDate":"May 8, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"TaylorGP","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/TaylorGP","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/67453436"},"dateDigested":1532140532,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE #8","description":"It doesn't make sense how society loved when females were hairy, didn't care about their skin tone, or didn't care about the length of your eyelashes before and now society has a certain look. This article breaks my heart and I find it entirely true. It's crazy to think how marketing can change the way people see themselves. Beauty advertisements are dangerous and it has such a powerful and mostly negative impact on women. Why does society have to have a specific type of beautiful? We go around everyday telling insecure women that they are beautiful just the way they are but if there was no idea of beautiful or products made to make someone beautiful, then we wouldn't have so many insecure women in our society. It's also sad when beautiful people don't find themselves beautiful. Beauty lies within and not from the outside. You can be gorgeous on the outside but it won't mean anything if your character is horrible.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"67449302","dateCreated":"1399584369","smartDate":"May 8, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"frpaulo","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/frpaulo","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/67449302"},"dateDigested":1532140532,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE#8","description":"When I was in 8th grade, I was really adamant about being "all natural" throughout high school and I told myself I wouldn't wear makeup and worry about all that appearance stuff. I know we've all heard the phrase "beauty is skin deep" but this post believes that beauty is the skin. I agree and disagree with this post. It's understandable the women want to shave or have manicured nails because it makes them look like a clean person who cares about how they present themselves to people. People who don't care about their looks doesn't necessarily mean they don't care. Personally, I dye my hair, get my nails done, shave, wear bikinis, and do all the rest of the good stuff on a regular basis because it is what I consider normal, not for beautification purposes. Other things like eyelash length I don't really care about. I mean it would be nice to have better looking lashes, but I've accepted that the way I look is just the way I look. I think a lot of the "beautification" process is a personal preference. I've always been a little more tom-boyish than other girls, but I can see where some girls would put in extra effort to look a certain way because that is what they consider beautiful. Honestly, it comes down to the girl and her self confidence and security with being the way she is. It's sad to think that some girls have a picture of beauty and anything else is less than that. It's cheesy, but every girl is beautiful in her own way, it just depends how she sees herself.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"67448832","dateCreated":"1399582396","smartDate":"May 8, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"JTLB","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/JTLB","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/67448832"},"dateDigested":1532140532,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE #3","description":"I found this article very interesting and very relevant. It's a true fact. Women are constantly faced with the images of what society sees as beautiful and not what they think is beautiful. Everyday women all over America struggle to find true beauty, but the problem is that they're looking in all the wrong places. Looking for beauty in what we see on TV what we see in magazines and all throughout Hollywood is totally wrong. Although it's easy to tell women not to conform to what they see in all these wrong places it truly takes a strong woman to actually go out and create her own beauty. I feel like women all over the world need to switch the mindset of what they think is beautiful. I think it's important for people, especially women, to go out and explore for their own true beauty.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":true},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
