However, I did not know that there were many different views and perspectives of what the actual story was about and the morals behind it. It is interesting that in France, people felt that there was the reference towards "when a girl lost her virginity it was said that elle avoit v\u00fb le loup \u2014 she\u2019d seen the wolf." And when I look and think about it now, it can be a possible view of the story. Even the religious view intrigued me and made me actually think about it. I did agree with the quote "sweetest tongue has sharpest tooth!" This is very true in many ways and girls nowadays really should watch what they do. "Today we still use the term \u201cwolf\u201d to mean a man who chases women". Although I've never heard the term "wolf" being referred to a man that goes after a woman, nowadays there are many other words that can define this definition, which probably was influenced by "wolf" itself.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"44845542","dateCreated":"1319447213","smartDate":"Oct 24, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"nikaidoL","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/nikaidoL","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/44845542"},"dateDigested":1532140759,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"laurens response","description":"Im not too surprised at the deconstructing of the story Little Red Riding Hood because as I finished reading the original story I noticed at the bottom there was a moral, explaining young girls not to trust men even the nicest ones because those are the worst. Those are the ones who will do bad things to innocent young girls. This story basically means to not trust strangers, and not to give too much information away. What I did find interesting in the deconstruction of this story is that its about seduction, and that the story was originated in france. And what I also found interesting was the symbols in the story and what each represented.

It gave so many different perspectives on the fairy tale. I never thought of Little Red as anything more then the dumb girl who got eaten by an animal. I never really payed close attention to the little things in the tale, which was mentioned in the article. For example, Little Red gieeting into bed NAKED! I dont remember reading that before! What the article is saying is true because this tale does set up the stereotypes of men and women
\n(relationship wise). It really was an interesting article to read. It's hard to believe a children story such as Little Red Riding Hood actually originated as a seductive tale. After reading the original story and then the article I had to read the original story over again. The part that really got me was when she "took off her clothes" and got in bed with the wolf. I also found it interesting by how the article referred to a French saying that paralleled a girl losing her virginity to "she'd seen the wolf". And all this time I thought "Little Red Riding Hood" was an innocent children story.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"30907945","dateCreated":"1291104495","smartDate":"Nov 30, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"aldevens","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/aldevens","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/30907945"},"dateDigested":1532140760,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Whoa!","description":"Being that I now know the real story behind Little Red Riding Hood, I must say I am surprised! I was not expecting this story to have this sort of moral yet teach girls about sex predators. I did not know that this children's fable was banned from schools because of the "sexual" content it represented. I re-read the story after reading this article and it clearly jumps out to me about how little girls should not trust strangers and give out information. I guess til this day red is still the color of love, lust, and seduction accentuating the red coat in little red riding hood. The red coat jumps out to me more now knowing what the color red meant to people back then.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"30907783","dateCreated":"1291103549","smartDate":"Nov 29, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"kterayama","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/kterayama","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/30907783"},"dateDigested":1532140760,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"A Seductive Tale?","description":"After reading "Little Red Riding Hood", i was blown away! It seems like I DIDn't know the story as well as I thought I did... It was interesting and fun to read how this tale has developed and changed over time. Until I read this, I never realized that modern fairy tales have more strong heroines. But now that I think about it, it is true. The whole idea of the "glamorous victim" is seen more often now. I'm guessing this is the reason why girls dream of being the princesses that they see in stories and movies.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"30906259","dateCreated":"1291096518","smartDate":"Nov 29, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"taranilsson","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/taranilsson","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/30906259"},"dateDigested":1532140760,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Little Red Riding Hood","description":"I was completely shocked to find out that the original Little Red Riding Hood was actually a tale of seduction since I never noticed any sexual innuendos in the story I know. How could such a tale be twisted into a children\u2019s story? Either way, there is a message to young girls that they should watch out for strangers, especially if they are men. This message may seem good, but it actually victimizes young girls by telling them that they need protection from men (ex: the woodcutter in the story helps Little Red Riding Hood), which, of course, is anti-feminist because women aren\u2019t supposed to need men\u2019s help. However, I can definately see how fairy tales are becoming more feminist because newer and newer versions of Little Red Riding Hood make Little Red less of a victim, and modern fairy tales definately more often portray female characters are heroines. In addition, since the article says that chastity is a feminist ideal, Little Red Riding Hood can be considered a more feminist tale when Little Red Riding Hood doesn\u2019t lose her virginity. I am glad that fairy tales are getting to be more feminist because it will probably help to make girls believe that they can be heroines rather than just damsels in distress.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"30905495","dateCreated":"1291094084","smartDate":"Nov 29, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"DaniCalifornia7","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/DaniCalifornia7","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/30905495"},"dateDigested":1532140760,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"what in the world?","description":"Ok I admit when I read the part about Little Red Riding Hood taking off her clothes and climbing in bed with her grandma I was a little weirded out, but I wasn't thinking the lesson had to do with French saying of losing your virginity and "having seen the wolf."
\nI do like the hidden meaning in stories though and using it to sell products. I feel having different interpretations for different ages is good as kids become older the lessons they need to learn change. However, I don't like the version in which she tricks the wolf by having to go to the bathroom, I think one of the points in ALL the versions is that there is punishment if you stray from what is right, not that you can get yourself out of things by being sneaky.
\nAs for the products based off the story, I think it's smart. It's like having celebrities sell objects...","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":true},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
