However, the topic that was raised in this article is a very interesting one, and personally, someone's own physical appearance never seems too bother me at all. Being angry at someone's own physical attractiveness is much different than acknowledging it and wishing that you were that good looking. It may seem silly, but it's hard to look at someone and not wish that you had one of their qualities or traits. But this is no reason to get mad at someone for their own qualities and traits.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"66628048","dateCreated":"1395210231","smartDate":"Mar 18, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"cokiehm","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/cokiehm","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/66628048"},"dateDigested":1532140780,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE#4","description":"I agree with the author; many times, especially as a high school student, I find myself being more concerned with the way I look compared to my female peers. I commonly find myself in conversations with my group of friends when we're talking about how pretty a certain girl is, but I realize that isn't what is going to matter twenty years from now. When we're older, no one is going to care who the best looking girl was back in high school. However, I can understand why the media focuses on stars like Lolo Jones; sex appeal sells.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"66627116","dateCreated":"1395202086","smartDate":"Mar 18, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"Jbotelho","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Jbotelho","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/66627116"},"dateDigested":1532140780,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE #4","description":"I too agree with this post, women who are more attractive tend to get things that they want. Maybe women who dress better or take the time to make sure they look good is a symbol of work ethic and some might see that as a positive thing. There are many statistics that prove women who dress to impress get the job rather than women who do not care about their looks. In situations were women get the job just because they look good is down right wrong. Women who get things soley on their looks isnt fair but if your hardworking and attractive, well thats a bonus. As for erin's commentary, I totally agree with the fact that some students may think a teacher is a good teacher because they are attractive. I have also heard many of my guy friends say that a class is hard but its okay because the teacher is "hot".

Looks totally determine whether you may get a job or not. People are always comparing others whether they are comparing themselves to someone else or comparing two different people. I know everyone, or maybe almost everyone, tries to look their best veryday especially when going out into public. When going for a job interview or something important, most people dress their absolute best. But, if they knew that they had a higher chance of being chosen not based on looks, then I would assume that they wouldn't choose to dress their best but rather what they are most comfortable in.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"66621686","dateCreated":"1395179580","smartDate":"Mar 18, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"Syhalcro","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Syhalcro","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/66621686"},"dateDigested":1532140780,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE #4","description":"After reading this article I totally agree! If it's a girl I vaguely know or with whom I'm an acquaintance, then I get kind of jealous. I know I shouldn't, but they just seem so naturally flawless that I wonder if I did something wrong. THEN I feel bad again, because that person is an amazing student or an amazing dancer, singer, musician, athlete and all I can think about are her looks. Which sucks. For women of high status like Palin, Lolo Jones, actresses, athletes, and more, they are constantly under the microscope and are always being watched. The media criticizes every aspect of these women and purposefully try to demean and knock them at their knees with their vulnerabilities. It's so easy to demean and criticize the people that are on the pedestal because you will automatically get viewers attention. It sad to see how much the media cares about Kim's weight gain or how many kids Angelina has... Really?! Who the hell cares, you gain weight, they gain weight! It' serially not that big of a deal. We're all human and we all make mistakes, look different, act different, and are overall just different! So pointing out the flaws in others doesn't show their character but your own. Our world has come to a stage where looks can get you very far in life. On tv everyday we see the success of people with great looks. Being a sports fan I see the impact of having good looks in everyday sporting events. I can guarantee that there are many applicants who apply for a sports casters job, but sadly if you lack the good looks and appeal, you won't get the job. In almost every sporting event, the women you see interviewing the athletes after games are almost always attractive women. This article is a good eye opener to people who haven't made this observation already. As bad as it sounds I don't think our world will grow out of this bad habit of hiring those who are good looking because everything in our world is seen on some type of electronic medium, whether it be tv or on the internet. And the truth is that looks get the views.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"66619954","dateCreated":"1395173153","smartDate":"Mar 18, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"Mikaylalum","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Mikaylalum","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/66619954"},"dateDigested":1532140781,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE #4","description":"I found this article very interesting. It's actually funny because I was just thinking about this the other day, and how some women, are treated better to they get ahead if they are more attractive. This article specifically talked about Lolo Jones and Sarah Palin, who are believed to get ahead because they are more attractive. I found it also true that sure, George W. Bush, or previous President, can get ahead with the help of his family and his wealth, and this is accepted to more people, than Sarah Palin, who may have got ahead in her career, not because of her riches, but because of her looks. Is this her fault? No it is not. It is not her fault that she is a beautiful woman and I find it as a disgrace to our country, that we judge her based on her appearance, and her clothing, when we should be listening to her pronouncements to the country. As for Lolo Jones, same goes for her. I read the article that The New York Times wrote of her and I also looked up the comments that her teammates had said about her after she lost and they won. I feel sick to my stomach, and almost angry when I see this. It is so rude and disgraceful of women and society, who judge a woman on her appearance and who put her down, just so they can bring themselves up. It is sad that our women have come to this, and show the stereotype that women hate on other beautiful women, just because they are the ones that are insecure. I don't understand how we all say, we need change in society, and that we are the change. We need to stop this bullying and bringing down of people, but the people we look up to, like those Olympic athletes, they can't even change. If they can't change, and they are the ones that our generation is looking up to, how are we supposed to change? Like this writer of this article said to end her story, "We are better than that. At least we should be." We should be able to look at someone, and not judge them, if they are ugly or pretty. Everyone is human, and they are beautiful, inside and out. The dreams of many people, including myself, is that we can live in a world when you are not judged based on beauty, or wealth, or education, but instead, for your beliefs. Everyone should be accepted for the person they are. Everyone should be secure for the person they have become.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"66619098","dateCreated":"1395170188","smartDate":"Mar 18, 2014","userCreated":{"username":"Kamfong1","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Kamfong1","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/66619098"},"dateDigested":1532140781,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"CE #4","description":"This article is extremely relevant to the way that today's society will judge and display athletes with "good looks". I agree that it is unfair for the media to give so much attention to athletes solely because their physical attributes. An article like this, in my opinion, helps to shine some lime light on the so-to-say more athletically gifted athletes that may not seek so much publicity.
