The main reason is that I've never really played with dolls, but also, I know that no matter how many people past the Justin Bieber phase oppose it, the doll is definately going to sell. Really, I am not surprised by the creation of the doll because the people making it know that this is exactly what will make them the most money. Regarding the matter of whether the doll makes Justin Bieber more feminine, I believe that Justin himself cares more about his fans and the money he will make.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"27987417","dateCreated":"1286263000","smartDate":"Oct 5, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"aldevens","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/aldevens","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/27987417"},"dateDigested":1532140808,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Justin Bieber Doll","description":"Although I am not a fan of Justin Bieber, I must say the out coming of this new doll must be very exciting for those who are. This doll has similar features as the "Barbie" doll by the way that it was manufactured. This will probably be the peak of Justin's career considering the audience he is targeting move from fad to fad at a rapid pace. The targeted audience are tween girls and some boys. Mostly girls will buy this product but one doll will probably be more favorable than the other. The doll that comes with his leather jacket and movie star chair will, I think, be the best seller out of the two dolls. When something new comes out, the kids will forget about the Bieber fever and his fame will start to fade.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"27975025","dateCreated":"1286237700","smartDate":"Oct 4, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"amalualu","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/amalualu","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/27975025"},"dateDigested":1532140808,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Justin Beiber","description":"I really enjoyed these articles because I think it brought up some very interesting points of view. I think the whole "Beiber Fever" thing has become something much more than it really is, which is a newly found pop star. Too many people are over reacting at this silly issue. Is it really that strange for a pop star to have a doll? And regarding his hair being plastic, again who cares? Sure it depicts the nearly (if not already) insane obsession with a teen (mega)popstar, but there have been others before him. Take *nsync or backstreet boys for example. I thought that relating his face to that of a Chucky doll was unnecessary and hurtful. I don't care for Bieber but I'm not staunchly against him. Just from human being to human being, I thought that was mean. Like we were saying yesterday that dehumanizing people makes violence easier, the same goes for insults. Turning him into a doll makes it even easier to make fun of him. The least they could do is say it to his face. They aren't giving him a chance to defend himself.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"27839707","dateCreated":"1285936063","smartDate":"Oct 1, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"kendraho827","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/kendraho827","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/27839707"},"dateDigested":1532140809,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Justin Bieber Doll","description":"It's interesting how teenage celebrities are greatly marketed through dolls and other products. Just like the fad of Hannah Montana and High School Musical, now Justin Bieber has his own line of toys. These toys are targeted towards teenage girls. I think it's a little extreme for regular teens to get so crazy and obsessed over celebrities as to buying any products with their face on it. Also, the company that produces the line of product is also encouraging teenager's obsession.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"27836775","dateCreated":"1285922962","smartDate":"Oct 1, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"stephanieung11","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/stephanieung11","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/27836775"},"dateDigested":1532140809,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Justin Bieber Doll","description":"To be honest, I'm not actually that surprised that Justin Bieber dolls are being made. Needless to say, the world has "Bieber Fever." While Justin does have many fans, boys and girls, the majority of his fanbase is female. His atypical voice and baby face make him irresistible to girls across the nation. Justin's manager\/company realizes that, and uses it as a marketing strategy to feed the already existing fangirls and attract new ones. While I do think that Justin's doll does appear to be a bit feminine, I do not think it necessarily dictates who Justin Bieber really is. It is apparent, however, that the image he or his company is going for does kind of border femininity. Just the fact that it is a DOLL and not some other product that is coming out reveals that it is directed toward an audience of young girls.
\n
\nI think the comparison to Ken is also arguable. A companion to Barbie Doll is indeed different from a pop idol singer doll. In some ways, however, Ken and the Bieber doll are very alike. The video criticizes Ken, questioning his manly integrity and whatnot. Ultimately Ken, despite being a male doll, is not meant for boys but for girls. The same goes for the Justin Bieber dolls. I think that even though Justin is a guy, the product (dolls) are directed toward the girls.
\n
\nIn reference to the writers behind the two articles, I do think that the authors have very different opinions about the Justin Bieber doll. The author of the first article sounds much more excited about the Bieber doll launch, and even comments and criticizes how the doll's hair does not live up to the "soft shaggy do" of the real deal. The second article's author, on the other hand, seems to be much more critical. The article itself seems a bit satirical. This is obvious in her comparison of the Bieber doll to Chucky as well as the video link. The author even imagines the doll as the "obnoxious child" of Barbie and Ken on Toy Story 3.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"27986475","body":"Thank you for your very complete response. Fans have already shown what great lengths they will go to to be near him. In Australia, one of his concerts had to be cancelled because fans could not wait until the concert time, so the crowd surged and many were getting injured. The level of obsession that takes over these girls is ridiculous, and making a doll will probably make the \u201cBeiber Fever\u201d situation even more worse and harder to control. The doll itself shows some feministic traits, and he is like the Barbie Ken doll in the sense that if I were to imagine him with a voice and a personality, they would be very similar, if not the same. The popularity of Justin Bieber within the tween generation is constantly increasing so it makes sense to make a doll. However, I do not think making Justin Bieber into a doll is a good idea. I think it makes him seem less real and more fake. Tween girls may get the wrong impression that all boys should look like that. A doll has no emotion or character, consequently it cannot portray the true Justin Bieber. Although it may look like him, a doll cannot represent a true human with real feelings and emotion. People either love Justin or hate him for his baby face and high pitched voice. People love Justin because he has a soft face and sings about young love and dreams. He seems to be a sensitive kid who is very likeable. However those who despise Justin do so because of these very feministic qualities. A person in the music business need to apparently follow the implied "rules" of being a male star: masculine, buff, and intense (clearly Bieber doesn't have any of these qualities).
