I also thought it was weird how the students acted towards female teachers that taught biology and chemistry; \u201cmale students tended to underrate their female teachers, but female students did not\u201d. In physics, both female and male students underrated their female teachers; it didn\u2019t make sense to me that in biology and chemistry, only male students underrated their teacher, but in physics both genders underrated their teacher. Why?
\n
\nI found it odd that female teachers received lower evaluations than male teachers when they both were \u201cequally effective at preparing their students for college.\u201d
\n
\nAfter reading this article I realized that female teachers and male teachers do have different ways of teaching different materials to their students, but either way I don\u2019t think the gender of your teacher should matter; I think that as long as the student is learning what he \/ she is supposed to then there should be no problem. In the article it says that differences in teaching styles do exist among female and male teachers, but both genders are equally effective at preparing their students for college; that is what students, teachers, etc. should be looking at rather than the gender of their teacher.
\n
\nI also realized that I do work better with female teachers rather than male teachers; although I don\u2019t underrate my teachers according to their gender, I do feel more comfortable around female teachers.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"16150055","dateCreated":"1256893413","smartDate":"Oct 30, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"neagbaya","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/neagbaya","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/16150055"},"dateDigested":1532140819,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Corey?","description":"Love you Corey!.. It really is an eye opener every time I hear one of these stories because it means that this problem of domestic violence still apart of our world today. In this incident, the senator, a man, lets his anger envelope him and he uses his strength to punish his girl friend. It always seems that people use violence to prove themselves to be better than victim. This is just not acceptable at all. No human being has the right to take advantage of another one and hurt or even kill another person. I think that it is shocking to us every time we hear one of these stories because we think that our world had become equal but really it is just not as unbalanced as before. But eally this issue goes further beyond the sexes to everyone. It is not just women that are being "punished" but also children and even men. It is an issue that really must be dealt with because it effects too many lives.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"14393747","dateCreated":"1253240892","smartDate":"Sep 17, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"sarasaltman","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/sarasaltman","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/14393747"},"dateDigested":1532140820,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"perceptions...","description":"I really enjoyed reading this article because it not only gave examples of occupations that are deemed "unorthodox" for women, but more importantly because it brought up the question of the strong perceptions of "women's roles" that are engraned even in progressive and modern societies. Although the standards for women's occupations are now becoming less rigid, there are still stereotypes of what a women should and shouldn't do. It was interesting to read about how women are not allowed to be in the military in certain countries. ALthough we think of places, such as Australia, as modern and equal continents, the fact of the matter is that equality between the sexes still does not exist. I liked the quote in this article that stated, "Like every other job, if a military woman can match her male counterpart, she should be treated as an equal." Not only should women be allowed to have equal oppurtunity for jobs, such as being in the armed forces, but they should be praised for their initive and bravery to pursue a life threatening and dangerous occupation.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
