I never heard about this 'tween' Dora scheme before reading this. I find it interesting how the creators of this new Dora assume that the tween age is more interested in make up and appearance. I found some topics that were brought up very controversial. Especially how the new 'tween' Dora somehow creates a new adventure into a fashion show by having the application to change her style and eye color. I can see clearly that the makers of this Dora are targeting semi-more grown-up viewers, not the usually childhood audience. I really enjoyed this article!","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"26869837","dateCreated":"1284100354","smartDate":"Sep 9, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"tihategirl22","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/tihategirl22","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/26869837"},"dateDigested":1532140825,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Eye Color or Mountain Adventure?","description":"I really thought that this was an interesting article. Good point in saying that the tween Dora is just a stereotypical girly girl. I agree (even though I dont watch the show.) This "new" Dora will only cause girls who are watching to focus on their appearance. And the change is obvious. Kids who are watching mighth forget about the thrill and excitement of adventure. This obvious change that Dora went through will have a great impact on the children who watch the show. I'm not sure if there is a positive effect. But there is definitely a negative one. THe image of Dora just became from a nice, adventurous girl to a girly girl. We need to address the fact that the vast majority of the people who are watching this are only kids. If they see the character in one of their favorite shows change like this, they will most likely do the same. In my opinon, this new Dora will cause the show to lose its purpose. After seeing the show, girls will tnhink, "I need to look like this." or "This is what a girl is supposed to look like." Children are easily influenced, and we'll see how the tween Dora will effect them.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"26869773","body":"","dateCreated":"1284099875","smartDate":"Sep 9, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"DaniCalifornia7","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/DaniCalifornia7","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"26869885","body":"There are numerous negative thoughts on the new Dora doll; however, there is ways to avoid getting caught up in the new Dora and positive effects as well. Parents don't have to allow their children to have Dora links and since the old Dora will be on TV still they don't have to know about the changes. Of course there is the issue of the new doll in stores, but with everyone saying that the change is so dramatic and kids won't be able to recognize the new Dora there's the possibility that they really won't and she will be just another Barbie. Which, most young girls do play with and other girly toys and thus they are affected by girly behavior regardless. However, the new Dora still is different from the other Barbies. If you go to the product website doralinks.com you will see her and her explorer girls. They still have an adventurous side and love to garden, surf, play soccer, solve mysteries, and yes they now enjoy the mall as well, but the message is that girls can be feminine and beautiful like the celebrities of Hollywood, whom they will soon possibly desire to be like, and still they can be adventurous as well. The ability to change Dora's hair and eyes simply allows more girls to be able to relate to her and have her more personal to themselves while she grows up with them.","dateCreated":"1284100607","smartDate":"Sep 9, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"DaniCalifornia7","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/DaniCalifornia7","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"26870613","body":"Although it may seem like a shock to some on how much Dora has "grown up," people have to face the facts that the manufacturers of these dolls don't care about the way little girls look up to these dolls as role models but make them as interesting as they can to sell, sell, sell! Dora is not the first baby toy to have "matured" and shows a different aspect of life. The Barbie doll, for example, is all about fashion and looking good. I cannot remember anytime where I wanted to be like Barbie because she is smart or out going. Although she may have the outfit for it, she was most definitely not going to pursue any adventures. Many dolls are starting to come with access to the computer like the Webkinz stuffed animals. The children want to be able to play on the computer with this pretty girl and feel like a grown up using this electronic. Switching up the topic, the way the add emphasizes heavily on Dora's appearance is showing young girls that appearance is everything. The way you can change her hair style, her eyes, her clothes jewelry everything is telling little girls they can fix themselves up like that and its okay. Seeing all the bright flashy colors is another way that this doll affects girls. The only good side to this add is how Dora still goes on her adventures but it does not feel the same. Will she still speak spanish and play with animals? What happens to boots and map and backpack? These are the questions youngsters will be asking after they see the new and improved Dora. The media is targeting the young naive children who want to be and have everything they see on television. This is a sly way to brain wash little kids into thinking about material things rather than the good values she is trying to teach.","dateCreated":"1284105776","smartDate":"Sep 10, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"aldevens","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/aldevens","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
