If a girl is pretty and has drama, the American culture craves the negative attention that it brings. I agree with Sarah that most women are becoming famous off of their looks and not based off of what they have accomplished. For example, reality shows are based on culture and the desires of people trying to find true love. Most of the MTV shows are made so that they can generate viewers, but there reputation as a TV station is not very good. Other reality shows show continuous fighting because it keeps the audience engaged through the whole show.
This article, sadly, does not surprise me about the going-ons of modern day celebrities. More and more nowadays, there are ridiculous amounts of media publicity for people who are either attention grabbers or just plain dumb. Some of the women who are portrayed on television are a terrible example for their younger audiences, giving those viewers a false sense that their behavior is acceptable. It's depressing to hear that the accomplished, famous women are an exception rather than a standard. The increased amount of pressure on young women to act and look 'perfect' in accordance to the standards set by the media take a detrimental toll on the youth of tomorrow. It is a sad thought that women who might otherwise discover a cure for something like cancer were never given the chance because they did not live up to the unfair standards set by the media.
I honestly believe that watching shows that depict stupid women is embarrassing to the women population. The way people portray themselves on television represent the population of men and women. I am truly confused as to how some women, such as Paris Hilton, are famous for doing absolutely nothing. Even though I do not look up to these types of women, I can't help but watch shows like, "The Bad Girls Club", or "Jersey Shore" which make fools out of women and show how "dirty" they can be. Many people as well get entertainment from watching these shows, otherwise they would not exist. Most importantly, I am not getting any ideas from these women because I would rather be able to learn from their stupidity.
I agree with this article that women now days are famous for the wrong reasons and they are not a good impression of women. Girls like Snookie and Jwow from the Jersey Shore are examples of why girls are getting the impression that is okay to act like that. In fact this is the reason why girl are perceived as dumb ditzy and display coquettish like behavior. Because these shows are promoted it is easy to see why girls think this behavior is okay. It is sad to see that strong women who accomplish many things are hardly shown in the media. The ideal women portrayed in the media is no longer the smart and hardworking girl. Instead its the one with good looks and a wild personality. This leaves a bad example for young girls to follow. As for me I look at this and use it as an example of what I don’t ever want to be. I would never try to act and live like they do but the drama and foolishness of the celebrities is very funny at times. However, I do agree that women shouldn't be famous just because they're beautiful or rich. I believe in working hard for something. Some women celebrities are definitely not appealing to me because the way they act are way out of hand. These women should think about how they act because girls do look up to them, whether they know it or not, and it much of the time these celebrity women are not good role models. But like the article says, Michelle Obama is a very good role model and therefore there two different types of women celebrities.
I found most of this article to be very appalling. I have thought about this seemingly stupendous phenomenon of being rich and famous, the American Dream for some, with no hard work, elbow grease, knowledge, or success. Women and men today are flushed with the media’s unceasing influence on TV, on our phones, on social networking sites, and even National News. I mean really, that is not even news. This heavy influence of the media on society has caused the essence of physical beauty to be stretched to the extremes, really skinny and really tall. For men, the new-in style is fow-hawks, tight tees, and gym-tan-laundry, for all those guidos. Not only is it changing society’s perception of beauty, but defacing the values of book smarts and business. The simple, dumb man is the new thing in most movies, and look at Paris Hilton, she is portrayed as a dumb-blonde. This has set a stereotype for all blondes, depicting a certain group of people as uneducated and incapable based on their heritable, unchangeable physical appearance. The media has a strong influence on society as a whole, and I feel that is ruining the America Dream of working hard and moving up the ranks to become successful in life by following individuals and groups that live a fairytale life style of automatic or even instant, gratification, fame, and wealth for simply nothing. Is this the message we want to send to future generations? I think not.
I think that this was a really interesting article because it portrayed the skewing of the media in it's perception of women and mens roles. It gives women a stereotype that portrays women as stuck up beauty queens who only worry about looks and appearances. Then it goes to tell how women actually live: working hard, dedicating themselves to defending their country, helping other countries, taking jobs thought of as higher than men, or just caring for their children. It is sad how those people have become famous just for things they do on their reality TV show. I have to give them credit, though, they do an excellent job at portraying the stereotypical reality TV star, but they could do so much more with their lives, becoming famous for their achievements and hard work.

This article is very realistic in the way the media portrays what celebrity women are today. Unfortunately, women that we see on magazine covers and T.V. shows are the women, we as Americans, stereotype as being the ‘ideal woman’. This ideal woman is recognized for the wrong reasons, such as ‘famous for doing nothing’. Women like Sarah Palin, Hilary Clinton, and Angelina Jolie are women who make a name for themselves; apparently they are the ‘exceptions but not the rule’. These women are sometimes seen as feminist who are more independent and self-successful. Through commercials, advertisers direct a certain audience of ‘housewives’ who stay at home and clean. For example, almost all dishwashing soap or laundry soap commercials have a housewife as the protagonist. In movies and TV, both men and women are stereotyped and only men should do one thing while women do the other. In the world of media, the only reality is stereotyping what men do and what women do. The media does not revolve around the modern endeavors of women and their occupations but rather what ‘stereotypical men’ have always wanted out of their woman, a mother, a spouse, someone to satisfy them. Unfortunately, according to this article, media will not change any time soon. Women will still be a Paris Hilton or an Anna Nicole in the media’s eyes. The only positive thing that I can take from reading this article is that the real world (not the unrealistic world of media and stereotypical men and women) does recognize that women have changed such as the number of women going to college or a female astronaut.
I agree with the article that many reality show celebrities are famous for having no talent.
