It made me think about how wonderful women in America have it. I think these women deserve the medical help they are promised. It is so unfair, these women are not even treated like human beings. Their pay is so little yet their work shift is extremely long and tough on their bodies. I feel so horrible and wish I could do something about this issue. I think they are cheated out of their money and not taken care of specifically because they are women. This is not right. Women work just as hard as men and deserve the same rewards. I have high hopes the pending establishment for a hospital in Rengali goes through. These women deserve this at the least.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"45101210","dateCreated":"1319706234","smartDate":"Oct 27, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"aminuth","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/aminuth","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/45101210"},"dateDigested":1532141270,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Anela's Response","description":"Reading this article I can't even image what the workers are going through. It makes me feel like i just take everything for granted and don't really appreciate all the wonderful things I have. It's so easy for people here in the United States to go out and find a decent paying job. Our problem is that a lot of people are too proud to take the lower stature positions like working at McDonalds or as a custodian. Laborers in foreign countries would kill for an opportunity like that. The fact that we are so fortunate in the United States and seeing how unfortunate workers in third world countries makes me want to go out and help them. I think most people feel this way but the problem is helping them is hard and most Americans are pretty lazy.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"45099776","dateCreated":"1319701484","smartDate":"Oct 27, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"MsFalk","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/MsFalk","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1250807416\/MsFalk-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/45099776"},"dateDigested":1532141270,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"More from Ms. Falk","description":"And more to consider, that might help answer some questions.

It shows the extent that women will go o support and provide for their family even if it means danger to their own lives. I think that most women in these countries don't have jobs and that they do not really have much choice as if to work in a safer environment. From my perspective I would say that the women working in this industry could greater harm their families however I have never been in conditions like they are where every penny is worth because it is so hard to get.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"45023628","dateCreated":"1319623464","smartDate":"Oct 26, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"nikaidoL","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/nikaidoL","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/45023628"},"dateDigested":1532141270,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"laurens response","description":"After reading this article I was shocked at the risky working conditions, pay, and people who work there. I was mostly shocked when I read that mostly women and children work at these tobacco factories, just because they have soft hands. And on top of that the pay is very little, they have bad aches and pains, and they get bronchitis and cancers from breathing all the tobacco in the air. This article shows how hard women work to support their families, but bringing their kids in to work and exposing them to such harsh conditions at a young age is not being a good parent. I feel they need more medical attention and safety gear whne working with harmful chemicals and carcinogens.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"45023364","dateCreated":"1319622366","smartDate":"Oct 26, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"miki10","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/miki10","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/45023364"},"dateDigested":1532141270,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Miki's Response","description":"After reading this article, I feel that working people in America, especially women, sometimes take granted the working conditions which they work in. I cannot believe that these woman can sit to ten to twelve hours and doing the same thing over and over agaian. Personally, I think that is just ridiculous because these women are not getting paid what they deserve and are getting sick due to their working conditions. It is not the women fault because the women are doing their job and is only trying to make a living for their family. I do hope that the government seeks a better change for these women because it is not fair that these women could possibly be infected with a disease due to their working conditions. After reading this article, I have a feeling taht I am not going to take for granted working conditions here in America because I know that women in other countries have live much harder than I and I hope one day that these conditions will change.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"45023076","dateCreated":"1319621440","smartDate":"Oct 26, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"Adriann28","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Adriann28","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/45023076"},"dateDigested":1532141271,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Adrian's Response ","description":"This article was shocking to me because I never knew how many long term illnesses can come out of working with tobacco. I also did not realize the many hours put into the rolling everyday by these women and children. I thought that it was very interesting to see what role Women play in India, and from this article I have learned that they are no where near the men in social standings. America is on it's way to gender equality and even though it is not completely equal yet it is getting close. However I think people fail to remember that this is not the case in most other countries. Women are still inferior to men, and they are willing to do whatever it takes to support their family. I admire this type of dedication and willingness to do whatever it takes to keep your family up and running. I also think that a hospital would help the problem but it would not completely solve it. The tobacco industry needs to be more aware of the harmful effects their beedi workers endure. They also need to think of a way to prevent their workers from catching these illnesses. (Ex: Using face masks, providing sinks with soap, Hand sanitizers, Air purifiers)","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"45021224","dateCreated":"1319616345","smartDate":"Oct 26, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"Malia.","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Malia.","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/45021224"},"dateDigested":1532141271,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Malia's Resopnse","description":"This article describes a horrible situation. It is extremely unfortunate that these women must sacrifice their health and their children's health in order to make a living. The final part of the article discusses how health facilities should be improved. I agree with this proposal, however I think this is just an immediate fix and will not change things in the long run. In order for this problem to be truly solved, the industry for the tobacco products must either crumble or develop a new, safer method of production. It is difficult in these areas where the resources to make these improvements are simply not available. In english 9 I did a speech on second hand smoke, and this situation reminds me of that. One line that I remember is: "smoking isn't suicide, it's murder." This statement applies to both those affected by second hand smoke and these women. They are victims of others' selfish acts that involve tobacco products.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"45020418","dateCreated":"1319615198","smartDate":"Oct 26, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"Careesebr","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Careesebr","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/iolaniwomenlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/45020418"},"dateDigested":1532141271,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Careese's Response","description":"After I read this article, I was not too shocked.
