Artist Frida Kahlo

For this project you will choose a female artist to showcase in a 4-5 minute speech.

Your artist may be classic or contemporary. She may be a painter, sculptor, or photographer--as long as she is a visual artist.

Your speech should cover the following points:

• A short biography of your artist.
• Some information on your artist's motivation--why does she do what she does?
• Some examples of her work
Choose a theme from class that you see expressed in this artist's work. Showcase it in a close reading of one piece that speaks to you.

The close reading should be at least 1/3 of the speech--it needs to be specific and detailed. Can you connect the piece to some modern ideas and concepts we have looked at?

You need to turn in the following:

A full sentence outline, with introduction and conclusion written out in their entirety (do you remember the parts of an introduction and conclusion?).

• A correctly formatted works cited page (remember to cite the images, as well).
• Your speaking note card, which should have no more than 50 words on it.

Turn in the outline and works cited in the appropriate Showbie folder.
