♣ -What A Girl Wants Linked above is my editorial. This editorial focuses on one portion of the media: the Internet. The Internet contains countless "Thinspo" blogs that support unhealthy eating habits in order to lose weight. At first I thought that the idea of having blogs supporting such a nasty problem was horrible. However, I realized it's not the blog runner's fault for believing that they aren't perfect. More of my opinions are exposed in my editorial.
♠ - Effects of Media Exposure This is my research paper. After the editorial, I looked at the media in general. I'm glad I decided to do body image in media rather than the ideal body in certain cultures because all of the information I found actually interested me. I found that women see more diet advertisements than men, that the weight of models used by the media gradually decreases, and more. Gathering statistics and quotes for this paper also taught me that the ideal body does not, and never will, exist. Hopefully, whoever reads this paper will be inspired to spread this information about the media!
♦ - Project Proposal My product was originally going to deal with the ideal body of different cultures. However, while I was researching, I found more articles on how the media influences the way people want to look. These articles captured my attention, and I noticed it was easier for me to remember quotes and statistics from media research. Therefore, I decided that doing body image in media would be more successful if I found this topic more interesting.
♥ -Our Media Here is my final project. The link will lead you to my Tumblr blog. I titled it our-media.tumblr.com because it's about famous people who have been targeted by the media. The blog is split into three sections. Two sections have celebrities have either fallen to, or fought against media's body image standards. The last section (the main page without any tags) are photos that I used in my PPT for the presentation. All images are linked directly to the source.
The video I have posted below was supposed to be a part of my oral presentation. However, due to timing, I couldn't show the video. I wanted to play this because it leaves people feeling good after watching Tyra Banks stand up for herself. She had an obvious positive impact on the women in her audience and on everyone who viewed this clip. The video can also be found on my product Tumblr blog: www.our-media.tumblr.com/tagged/positive
