ABSTRACT: In the UK, human trafficking is a serious crime, as it is anywhere else. Children have been trafficked into the Uk to work for gangs or commit crimes for others and for drugs. This is a complex crime and most incidents are not reported and recorded because they are not always obviously seen as part of human trafficking. Since there is not a lot of records of these cases, other crimes are higher priority. There is also no government involvement because once again there is no disturbance to the public about what is really going on in their world. Public awareness is the biggest way to help this horrendous crime. The media is the target to getting people's attention. If people know and understand this problem, then more action will be taken.

Sayge's Reaction: After what we heard about this issue today, I thought that this would be a great current event to bring up. Human trafficking is not a big priority in this world anymore because I never do think about it either. I do not hear a lot about people's efforts to stop this problem or I do not hear people's stories. So I am not fully aware all the time that girls or kids younger than me in my own state or country are being trafficked for sex and labor. As for this article's solution of this problem, raising public awareness is the only thing that I can think of and agree with it because the victims are in fear of coming out with their situations and it is very difficult to get to the bottom of human trafficking in general.

Tristan's Reaction: Sayge and I thought that it would be a good idea to keep the issue of sex trafficking present in our discussion based on the guest speaker today. This article really speaks to what she said in telling us that this issue is larger than what society believes it is. It is rare to hear about this in the news and global warming and other issues are hot topics of discussion rather than sex trafficking. People need to be more educated and the article even states that sex trafficking is not a big deal and that society worries about other things. I do agree with the solutions and that all that we can do for now is raise public awareness like in the beginning of feminist movements that will help to get this issue to the forefront so that it can be dealt with properly and in a timely manner. It has gone on for too long.

Discussion Questions:
How does this article help you paint a better picture in your head after hearing our guest speaker?
Do you also believe that there is really nothing being done? Why do you think that way?
Why do you think that society is more concerned with material things than this issue?
