Ideal Man and Woman
Throughout history, the values of the ideal man and woman have changed dramatically. From prehistoric times to now, the values of men and women have gone through a big change, from what is attractive to what is not. Since the beginning of time, men and women have been attracted to each other and of course, the attraction and courting techniques have changed dramatically. So what are the ideal man and woman of the twenty-first century?
In the past, males didn’t go for the Kim Kardashian or Jennifer Aniston models and celebrities of today. Men seemed to be more attracted to the bigger well-built women that could bare a child with no problem. They weren’t afraid to eat a good hearty meal and they were built for endurance and could work along side their man. During this time, the attractive women were women we would call obese in today’s society. Though we would disagree with their views, men would look for a women like this because they felt they would get a lot more out of a women that was bigger and stronger then a small beautiful women like Kim Kardashian. During that time, physical attraction had no meaning to men and women, but what did was who could provide for the family the best and support the family’s every need.
As we look back in time, starting with the Stone Age up until now, the ideal of physical attraction has changed dramatically. Television has influenced the physical attraction between men and women. It also impacts Americans and their attraction to celebrities and famous people that they see on T.V. When we watch television, we constantly see jaw dropping men and women. Their faces grace magazines, headliner shows, television programs as well as commercials. Various polls have concluded that men enjoy looking at different features on many women; “the body of Gisele Bundchen, the nose of Natalie Portman, the hair of Taylor Swift, the eyes of Anne Hathaway, the lips of Scarlett Johansson, the chin of Halle Berry, the cheeks of January Jones, and skin like Amy Adams.” The traits that each of these super women possess make up the ideal women for some men. There are so many beautiful women who have features that are found in these categories that I feel that some men look for some of these traits in their women. By finding characteristics that are similar to those of television people, men and women are both able to spike their attraction to someone. Because women are just as wrapped up in what the whole package looks like, it is said that “the body of Mark Wahlberg, the nose of Jude Law, the hair of Jon Hamm, the eyes of Hugh Jackman, the lips of Brad Pitt, the chin of Jon Hamm, the cheeks of Leonardo DiCaprio, and the skin of Neil Patrick Harris make up the ideal man of the twenty first century.” After a worldwide poll was administered and votes were taken for results, it was concluded that these traits showed what both men and women are attracted to and look for in selecting their significant other. (Oh No They Didn't!)
Through many observations by Hollywood’s plastic surgeons,The combination of features of the Hollywood stars makes up what people seeking plastic surgery believe would be the perfect look.” As plastic surgeons continue to do many number of surgeries on people that want to look like their Hollywood stars we see on T.V, it becomes ideal that this is what they look for or find attractive to one another. With surgery after surgery giving men and women the ideal beauty that Hollywood stars have, Dr. Fleming says "There are common features you find year to year," "But these names are more a commentary about pop culture – whose face is in your face this year." Meaning that every year a new star comes out and has the face you want or find attractive and look for. It’s truly amazing how men and women go to plastic surgeons for their ideal look. (Oh No They Didn't!)
In another study that took place in Germany, they compared the looks between girlfriends and wives out of 50 people. Thirty eight percent of men in Germany said that their girlfriend’s looks are more important. It was said only 21% of men care about their looks on their wife’s. For German men, looks involve (important: form of fingers and toes, nails, skin, hair, breast form, figure, lips, eyes, nose). (Ideal Woman) They also had a chart that showed the guidelines of if you’re this tall you have to be this weight and your body figure can only support this amount of weight. This makes women worry about their physical appearance, which forces them to diet and lose weight to make sure their physical appearance match’s.
Throughout time and history, men and women have adapted to the new physical appearance. So what is next for society? As time goes on, people change what they are physically attracted to and the ideal man and woman change with time. Through this there is no such thing as and ideal man or women but physical traits from different people put together to make the ideal man or women of the twenty first century.
