Personally I find it admirable that the Pornhub is sponsoring the breast cancer awareness bus tour; however I think that having porn stars help give the breast examinations is not such a great idea because it may hinder the potential success of the program. Risking the success of a program that is intended to help people seems to defeat the purpose of even having the program in the first place. Having porn stars give breast examinations may lead people to not take the organization seriously, and thus many people would miss the overall message of the program. Although it should not matter that many of the workers on the bus tour are porn stars, the sad reality is that it does. Understandably, there is skepticism as to the motives of the people involved in organizing the program, but whether or not someone is for or against porn it seems it should not matter because everyone should be united together to fight breast cancer.
Nicki's Response: I think that the purpose behind the whole Pornhub bus tour in raising awareness for breast cancer, was a very generous and sincere move on behalf of Bree Olson. I support her intentions on raising awareness, and I think that it is the first step of many. I really don't think that it matters that Pornhub sponsored the event. I don't think that people should be angry or disgusted that a porn star hosted the event or that Pornhub sponsored the event, because its not like they were promoting their business intentionally, they were just trying to raise awareness of breast cancer. It is hard when someone that is close to you is affected with breast cancer, and I think that the fact that Bree Olson decided to do something about it, rather than to just be there for her friend, was a very honorable decision. Dr. David Shafer said, “We do mammograms, breast exams, and so that’s why we wanted to get involved with this. With a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer in their lifetime, it’s an important issue for all women.” Obviously his sole intention is to help women become aware of how common and how important the issue is. Overall, I think that this was a very generous thing that Olson did to help raise awareness for breast cancer.
Esma's Response: Although I think that awareness for breast cancer is extremely important and I think its very considerate of Pornhub to sponsor the Save Our Boobs Bus, I'm not so sure that its a very good idea. If you think about it, you're also raising awareness of the widespread of porn. If I was a mother, I wouldn't want my daughter on the bus with a bunch of porn stars. What kind of environment would I be putting my teenage daughter into and what sort of role models would she be looking up to? And I would definitely not want my son to meet a porn star. By associating something that is often frowned upon publicly, thought not privately, with something that is good, it makes it seem like we're saying okay to porn too, which in my opinion is not okay. I don't have anything against the idea of raising awareness or providing free breast exams around New York. But in a certain light, the bus is advertising porn and bringing it to the public eye. I don't know if I'm okay with that. Yet at the same time I have to be okay with it because it's a good cause. It's an interesting situation.
