Women in Music 3-4 pages, typed, double spaced, manuscript form.
Step One: Choose a song with some gendered content. You have thousands of choices: just about any song will have some kind of gendered message.
Step Two: Print out the lyrics to the song. Annotate them as you would a poem. Include this in the final packet to be turned in.
Step Three: After annotating the lyrics, write your first draft. Consider the following questions:
• What message does this song communicate about being male or female?
• How does the song communicate this message? Use both the text of the lyrics and the musical text.
• What implications does the song have on our modern society? How can you link the song and its message to the text of the course? You will turn in the following:
• Both drafts of your paper
• The annotated lyrics
• The song itself, posted in the proper wiki folder.
Good luck! Think well. This is harder than it looks (sounds?). SONG LINKS
