Proposal I have chosen to do my project on women’s clothing and if they buy the clothing that they do to appeal to men or because they like it. I have chosen this topic because it is something that I really wonder about. My personal connection to this topic is that I like to sew and have sewn some of my own clothes. Sometimes, I choose my own patterns to execute, and other times I create my own. As a potential designer, it would be helpful to know if I am designing women’s clothing with men or women’s opinions in mind. My essential question is: Who do women really dress for?
This topic really interests me because I am interested in discovering how much society impacts women’s decisions in daily life. I want to find out what women think that men think is appealing and what men actually think is appealing. This is taking women’s fashion to the next level by incorporating society and what the consumer female thinks about when purchasing their clothing.
To execute this, I will study magazine and the popular trends and fads, interview local boutique owners about how they chose the clothes that they are going to sell, create surveys for both girls and boys to fill out (Girls-asking if they buy what they buy to impress boys or because they like it. Boys: what they like to see girls wearing), and more.
