Lauren's Portfolio
Ever since I was born I have been curious and striving to learn more each day. Now as a senior I have learned so much and am ready to continue this in college. When first assigned to Women in Literature, I had a neutral feeling as I do for most english courses. After the first few days in the course, I became thrilled and engaged in discussions. As a teen constantly moving towards womanhood, the topics we cover in class are always exciting and educational. Originally for the course I was hoping to learn "actual-factual" things about the history of women their rights. I never would have imagined that we would be having in-depth discussions that I can relate myself to. Taking this course helps me to be more mature because now I am more aware of gender conflicts around the world.

My Women in Literature Blog :)
[Check out my blog @ http://i-am-wonderwoman.tumblr.com/]
The only previous experience I had with blogs is with my Concept Physics blog, which is in completely different demands than a literature blog. At first I thought requiring to have a blog would be a hassle and something I would want to put on the side. Little did I know that I would end up really enjoying blogging on Tumblr from the very first post. Blogging is a very fun way to express my thoughts and opinions without the worry of others putting my ideas down. I decided to make my Tumblr URL "i-am-wonderwoman" because through blogs I can be powerful and express my ideas freely with no fear, just like wonder woman! The most meaningful post for me was when we had to make our own definition of a woman, man, girl, and boy. Creating my own definition of people at different stages of life, helped me to see where I am in my life. I've found that there are definately stages inbetween what I defined as a girl and a woman.

My Works:

Lauren and Womanhood
Typing this paper helped me to realize what my definition of womanhood is. Before writing my "Coming of Age" essay, I believed that I was closer to being a woman than I actually am. Prior to this paper, I made judgments purely on age as to where I stand in maturity levels. After completing this paper I found that reaching womanhood isn't going to be a clean-cut border that I will eventually pass. Womanhood is essentially an accumulation of experiences that will help me to learn more so I can be a independent and confident woman.

Gender in Syfy
When first being assigned to study and watch the Syfy channel I was disappointed and unsure as to how gender would at all relate to shows associated will terror, gore, and aliens. For my media paper I decided to focus on the Saw movie series. I watched multiple movies in the series and found small but shocking things that related to gender. The most typical thing I observed out of all the movies was the weakness of girls and their inability to survive in tough, life-threatening decisions. I also focused on the Syfy motto "Imagine greater" and noticed that they control what their audience thinks because of the negative messages from the shows. Therefore, Syfy blocks their audience from having their own opinions so they can't "Imagine greater."

Torn
Writing this poem helped me to realize the hardships and painful experience my grandma endured during WWII. My imitation poem made me appreciate her more and hear the story in a different voice and tone. This poem was one of the most difficult poems to write because it demands high emotion and telling another person's story as if it were their own voice.

Lauren's Persepolis Panel
I created a panel that would come after the full-page panel on page 71. In the panel shown, Marji is young and is going through a rough time. Her Uncle Anoosh was just executed and the war had just begun.
