State Senator Hiram Monserrate was accused of domestic violence for hitting his girlfriend out of jealousy. The incident started when Mr. Monserrate found a calling card with a man’s phone numbers in Ms. Giraldo’s purse. Ms. Giraldo was crying, screaming, and bleeding when Mr. Monserrate attacked her. On their way down to the hospital, Ms. Giraldo tried to ring her neighbor's door bell for help, but she was immediately forced to go to the hospital by Mr. Monserrate. However, instead of taking her to the hospital that was one block away, Mr. Monserrate took his girlfriend to a farther hospital for treatment.

How does domestic violence show the mistreatment of women? What causes domestic violence to be so widespread?
Why did Ms. Giraldo resist to go to the hospital? And interestingly, why did she want to see a plastic surgeon instead?
Why did Mr. Monserrate take his wife to the farther hospital when there is one just one block away?
How can we prevent domestic violence?
