This was one of my favorite assignments because I enjoy writing poetry. For this assignment, we had to imitate a poem that used questions. The poem was to be about someone close to ourselves whom we wanted to ask questions. I chose to write about my mother and father and their relationship when they first started dating. I learned that imagery is key for writing effective poems. I tried to imagine what it might have been like on their first date. It is a side of my father and mother that I've never seen. After completing this poem, I learned that poetry is perfect for expressing any kind of emotions or feelings. I hope that after people read this poem, they are left with a feeling of love and sigh.

PICTURE BRIDE POEM IMITATION

Did he have swag and
Smoothly approached her,
To lead her to the passenger side,
Her hand in his?
Or was he dumbstruck?
By her beauty and grace,
Or the way her lashes
Fluttered
Against her pink cheeks when she
Looked down upon her feet.
Bashful and giddy.
Was he old fashioned?
Raised by a father who taught him
Chivalry.
Opening every
Door,
Chair,
And letting her walk ahead of him.
Like a gentleman, being a gentle man.
Did he compliment her?
Shyly whispering,
Your dress is beautiful.
You look beautiful.
You are beautiful.
Was it his humor
That made her giggle?
Was it the way he
Held her hand from across the table
That made her smile?
Never in all his life
Had he laid eyes on someone
The way he did on her.
But how did it end just as magically?
Walked her to the door,
And held her gaze as they stood
In the shadow of the lights.
Two seconds felt like fifty--
Resisting the urge to kiss her
Good night.
As afraid as he was,
Why did he sing on the drive home?
On his lips she left a sweet kiss,
And all the night he dreamt of this.
