Final Assessment...
I have learned so much from this course and will take it away from me when I go to college. I learned about: assumptions that males have about females and females have about males, differences between a girl/woman and a boy/man, feminism, how the media portrays females, body image, women vs. male professional athletes, women and men in the work force, disney princesses, "sluts", lying, and the history/importance of fashion. I also thought Persepolis was especially enlightening because it describes life for women in a foreign place, living during the Islamic Revolution. This graphic novel made me appreciative of living in America and having the freedoms that we have today.
From my project, I have learned how to carry out a huge project over a long period of time. I learned that procrastination is not an option, and time is very important. I learned that it is hard work but rewarding to start from a small idea and bring it to action. I also learned that clothes are more than just something to wear, but an expression of oneself. I hope that my fellow classmates realized this by watching my video.
Learning everything that I did from this course, I will be able to better appreciate the differences and viewpoints of others around me (in college) because I know that everyone has something important and enlightening to contribute. Most importantly, I have a different perspective leaving this class because I realize now more than ever that the struggle for equality of men and women is still continuing and will probably never end. I honestly had no idea how many issues involving women are still going on in the world today. It makes me sad to think that somewhere in the world, women aren’t enjoying the freedom and rights that American women have. After leaving this course, I feel an obligation to go into the world and speak out against such inequalities and strive to become the best that I can be given the opportunities that I am blessed with.
