Although many don’t regard graphic novels as “actual writing,” it is communication nonetheless. Through use of words in conjunction with pictures and placement, the author’s specific message is able to be conveyed to an audience. By completing this assignment, we, students used to traditional expository writing, were forced to think creatively in order to convey the same message in a much more visual manner. This aided us in considering more deeply Sartrapi’s true intent in creating exactly what she drew. By considering the possibilities, an even greater multitude of potential hidden meanings became apparent.
