As the end of senior year approaches, I find myself ruminating on the various things I've learned and classes I've taken. Women in Literature has been one of the most enlightening as well as influential of those. Women in Literature has broadened my mental horizons and changed my overall view of the world. Taking this class has ruined my ability to mindlessly enjoy movies and television. Ms.Falk's introduction to modern media as a form of literature has opened my eyes to the depth and hidden messages found in these types of art.
Blogging My experience blogging has been a positive one. This has been my first time blogging creatively. My favorite post was one of the last ones which was about sexism and included an audio link.
This coming of age paper really helped me to reflect on the different ways that we "come of age." I also learned more about how my own path to womanhood has many turns to take before I feel that I am truly a "woman."
Through this media paper I learned a lot about the Oprah Winfrey Network. I learned that it is extremely gendered not just in content in the shows but in the advertisements as well. It was really interesting to examine the various ways OWN appeals to its audience and how they convey seemingly contradictory messages.
My final panel depicts Marji standing up to her hypocritical friends and is to be inserted in the middle of the book. I chose this because I wanted her to finally address the hypocrisy of her peers.
My Final Project
I chose to include this video because it was relevant to my final project as well as a portion of one of my sources. The work of Jean Kilbourne was one of the many reasons I decided to do my project on alcohol advertising.
