Attraction is a funny thing and feeling that sometimes makes many people crazy. Since the beginning of time, men and women have been attracted to each other and of course, the attraction and courting techniques have changed dramatically. With that in mind, what is the ideal man or women of the twenty first century? As we look back in time, starting with the Stone Age up until now, I think that the biggest thing that impacts many Americans is their attraction to celebrities and famous people who are always on television. When we watch television, we constantly see beautiful men and women who are jaw droppers. Their faces grace magazines, headliner shows, television programs as well as commercials. Various polls have concluded that men enjoy looking at different features on many women; the body of Gisele Bundchen, the nose of Natalie Portman, the hair of Taylor Swift, the eyes of Anne Hathaway, the lips of Scarlett Johansson, the chin of Halle Berry, the cheeks of January Jones, and skin like Amy Adams. (The Ideal Man.) The traits that each of these super women possess make up the ideal woman for some men. There are so many beautiful women who have features that are found in these categories that I feel that some men look for some of these traits in their women. By finding characteristics that are similar to those of television people, men and women are both able to spike their attraction to someone. Because women are just as wrapped up in what the whole package looks like, it is said that the body of Mark Wahlberg, the nose of Jude Law, the hair of Jon Hamm, the eyes of Hugh Jackman, the lips of Brad Pitt, the chin of Jon Hamm, the cheeks of Leonardo DiCaprio, and the skin of Neil Patrick Harris make up the ideal man of the twenty first century. (The Ideal Man.) After a worldwide poll was administered and votes were taken for results, it was concluded that these traits that were voted on showed what both men and women are attracted to and look for in selecting their significant other. It is evident that the majority of our lives are spent in front of the television and computer and there are always beautiful men and women everywhere, we need to remember to look at the whole person rather than how their appearance. You could be attracted to someone who is great to look at but whom you can’t have a conversation with. It is an amazing concept that those we are attracted to may have similar looks to someone we see on the television, on the computer and in magazines. With all the different forms that the media puts out, audiences are overwhelmed sometimes by what they see and these visual stimulations are subtle messages to our brains of what we like and admire. Next time you are out and about and you see an attractive young woman or possibly man, take a second and think why are you attracted to them? Is it their body shape or maybe a feature on their face that reminds you of a person that you are attracted to from the television? You would be surprised by how much television can have an effect on your physical attraction to someone. We will truly never know why we have these attractions to others. But we can say that T.V. has a great impact on what we are attracted to and look at in our men and women. It’s truly amazing the changes we have gone through over the course of time and these changes have brought us where we are today. I’m truly amazed by these guidelines that have been created and still wonder who came up with these and who has the authority or creativity to document the results of these polls. If we were to compare the twenty first century to the views of the twentieth century and before, the facts and presentation of the media has changed what many men and women are attracted to.
