I sincerely appreciate Ms. Falk introducing us to other cultures’ coming of age ceremonies. I must admit that it had sadly not crossed my mind. I learned that I have a clear idea of becoming a woman is in my mind in American culture; however, I also learned that my idea of becoming a woman was limited to a successful, respectable woman in a specific “world.” I was at a loss of words when I thought about what I would consider a woman in a third world country or a war torn country that I know absolutely nothing about.
